The Challenge

Online gaming platforms are an increasingly common vector for malware distribution, phishing and account-takeover attacks, and young players are often the least equipped to recognise the warning signs. Magilatech identified a pattern of malicious activity targeting gaming communities, distributed through fake mods, cheats and in-game currency offers.

Our Approach

Magilatech’s threat response team analysed samples circulating across gaming forums and social channels, reverse-engineered the malware to understand its behaviour and distribution methods, and mapped the broader campaign. Findings were translated into plain-language guidance alongside technical indicators of compromise, so that both security teams and parents/guardians could act on them.

What Changed

The response produced actionable detection signatures for security teams and a public awareness piece, Shielding Our Digital Explorers, aimed at helping families recognise risky downloads and social-engineering tactics aimed at children and teenagers.
